Smlight - smhub

An interesting thing happened today… I have an super edge case but figured I would let you guys know… I ordered 2 SMHUBS, I am running DHCP reservations on my IoT network, which is bridged over a few acres and multiple buildings. Any who when I installed the 2nd SMHUB my Unifi deployment kept trying to give the new hub the same IP and the first one I deployed… unplugged the 1st one and sure enough the new one stole the IP… after investigating they both have the same MAC address which is tied to the DHCP reservation…

two separate devices… plugged into different segments on the same VLAN…

I have yet to find a way in SMHUB-OS to modify the MAC so I can run both of these devices at the same time…

Yeah, that is a problem.

Email the manufacturer. They have been very responsive for me.

they responded this morning, I am testing the fix now…

This seems to have fixed everything…

Instructions from SMLIGHT…

  1. Ensure you are running SMHUB-OS 0.3.7
  2. Ensure the product model (.e.g SMHUB Essential, or SMHUB Nano or whatever SMHUB model do you have) - is displayed at the top left corner.
  3. Go to Console, and execute this command, at least on one SMHUB (better - on both): sudo fw_setenv ethaddr (password is smlight)
  4. Reboot.
  5. Chec IP address

That’s very naughty. MAC Addresses are supposed to be unique. A manufacturing defect as that is part of the commissioning process, to assign the unique address.
A bug you have successfully circumvented.
There should be a product recall to remedy this.
Shame
