I often forget about the things I have done but thought today I should share some of it to inspire others and show what they could do! Home Assistant is beautiful for this kind of stuff. My profession is application development and I also love doing it at home. Here’s some stuff I have come up with.
House Panel - This panel sits by the back entry of my home since that is the location used most for leaving and arriving home (garage out the back door). It shows weather from my Ecowitt weather station - 4 different temp and humidity sensors that scroll, gives weather alerts that scroll across the bottom of the screen, has a leaving button for each person in the home, which then looks for the next action to determine if the person(s) are leaving out the front on foot or the back (which fires AI to determine which vehicle leaves). There’s a lot to that part. Plus outside lights so one can know if a light is left on and door locks and camera alert disabling (I train my own AI on security cameras and when someone is outside doing yard work the alerts can be a lot). There are also buttons at the top for other screens, which aren’t tied to Home Assistant. The background also changes depending on the weather. Right now, it is mostly cloudy here. The AQI and that part comes from weather APIs.
Control Panel - This panel sits on my side of the couch and there is one on my wife’s side of the couch. This panel has everything useful to us in Home Assistant. Temps at the top for each room of the house, scrolling weather for outside, etc. Touch the screen and a banner shows at the top for Remote and hamburger menu. Touching remote shows remote functions for the living room TV (Apple TV and Nakamichi sound system). Hamburger menu shows rooms and then available devices to tinker with. Background also changes with weather conditions and my wife’s has different background conditions (sunflower field based).
I also have an Android and iOS app, since I use both. Much the same but for smart phones, of course. It is odd that I have been using these for years, like at least 4 years, and never thought to share them. I’d be happy to share more if anyone is interested in doing something similar. I should also mention that these are on tablets running Fully Kiosk Browser and are chromium-based.
