Hello,
I’d like to add garden lights to our back yard, but we don’t have any power outlet nearby.
Are there any switchable solar garden lights out there?
If possible, I’d like to add a sonoff WIFI to them and be able to switch them on/off via home-assistant automations.
Typically solar garden lights are just turned on automatically when it’s dark, i.e. detect low light, and then run until the battery is empty before it’s recharged the next day.
Adding a Wifi microcontroller would probably use way too much energy from the battery. Or you would need to quadrouple the size of solar panels and batteries.
Does your local hardware store maybe have some low-voltage 12/24V garden light system? Run the cable from the house through a simple conduit around the garden, and install a Wifi or Z-Wave switch with the power supply to remote control the lights.
