[SOLVED]Audio not working in VirtualBox

I am using Home assistant for a while now and I think it is really great. As a new user you got some problems ofcourse but most of them I was able to solve with the help of the internet and this community. The only problem I could not get solved after researching for the last days is the audio.

I run Hassio in VirtualBox on a windows 10 host. The system is not finding any audio devices. Tried every audio setting in VirtualBox but could not find the solution, Does anyone have some ideas?

  * /dev/ttyACM0
  * /dev/ttyS3

Hi @JeffsTech
For how long are you using it?
I had to reinstall hassio in order to view audio devices, as there was a bug some versions ago

Check this

Thank you for the tip, I am doing the reinstall now. Let you know if that helped.

Did a full clean install but did not resolve the problem.

BTW, what image do you use? Is it updated?
I just thought it may be related to docker as well, as hassio looks for devices from container

Am I right in virtualbox itself you have audio devices an they work well?

Used the vdmk image of the website: hassos_ova-3.7
Virtualbox sees the audio devices the right way

I haven’t a lot of experience with hassOS :roll_eyes:

If you have a time you can try linux image and install hass.io on it… maybe this will work

Solved: by installing a ubuntu server first on Virtual box and after that installing docker with Hassio with the help of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekVfLXnoM7k

With this my audio is working and I think I have more control over my installation as directly running Hassio on the VirtualBox. @frkos thank you for the suggestion!
