[SOLVED] Fresh Install on SSD Stuck on "Preparing Home Assistant" - But Works on SD Card - Why the difference?

Hi, I was previously running on a Rpi 3 with SSD. My new Rpi 4 8GB just arrived and I wanted to transfer my setup to the new Rpi 4.

So I flashed the SSD with a the latest 6.4 copy (Rpi 4 64bit). It boots fine and I can get to the WebUI. But then gets stuck in “Preparing Home Assistant” forever. Clicking on the blue dot gives shows me this log below. This is a headless install as I don’t have a micro HDMI yet to plug in and have a look.

The weird thing is that I also flashed the exact same copy into a temporary 16GB SD Card, and the install finished fine. This SSD was flashed with 5.12 when it was on the Rpi 3 in June 2021 and it was working fine. I can’t understand what could be the difference between the SD card and SSD that would give this error. Is there something I needed to change on my SSD?

Any ideas would be appreciated. Its been 9 months into my HA journey and was hoping the Rpi 4 + SSD would solve my stability issues that plagued by Rpi 3 set up. I’m just about to give up on HA…

(this can take up to 20 minutes)

My mini HDMI adaptor finally arrived so I looked at what was happening on screen.

'Failed to start Grow File System on /mnt/data" preceded by a critical target error on my ssd for IO failures.

Looks like the SSD ran into some issues during the re-flash. Luckily its still under warranty, got it replaced with another SSD and its all working now.
