Some websites unavailable since HA installation

Hi. I’ve run into a little problem.
My Bf can’t access some websites since i’ve set up HA on my Raspberry Pi 4.
Disconnecting the Pi doesn’t resolve the issue.
On my own PC the same sites work just fine.
Checked in my router, i didn’t mess around with DNS-settings or anything like that.
What could it be?
(Completely new territory for me btw, so please be patient  )

I’m using Opera GX
Bf is using Firefox

Thanks in advance!

Unless you set up HA to be the DNS server for your network it has no way of messing with your BF’s device.

What exactly is happening?

It gives us the “ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED” message.
Can i check somehow in the HA webinterface if i accidently changed settings in that way?

What makes you think it is home assistant’s fault?

Simply the timing. The issue came up when i got HA up and running on my Pi.

You would know, if you had setup HA as DNS server, trust me. This is nothing you do on-the-fly, you would have invested at least half an hour in reading up, what to do. So no, this is nothing, you would accidentally do.

Are the sympthoms arising in the last ten to 14 days? If so, let her try another browser. I’m also one of the few users of Firefox (really fell dramatically in the last years), and I do have problems for the last few weeks. This very forum here nowadays takes 30 to 50 seconds to load a page in a few cases…

If it’s not FF, then have a check in her browser by clicking F12. You should now land in the developer tools of the browser, where you can do a runtime check, to see, if and where it fails.

My guess, this is nothing with HA, just a timely coincidence. A DNS server would only block requests from one source, if you configure this specifically. Otherwise your page load would be blocked as well.

Thanks a lot for that phew

I set up HA just yesterday afternoon
We tried Edge. Same problem.

Again thanks a lot for your time^^

But we are talking about a PC or laptop (aka a computer) from your BF, or mobile?

Maybye some firewall setting in Windows? Honestly, this is just giessing, as I’m nearly 100% sure, HA can’t do such things, so it needs to be somewhere else…hmmmmm…

We’re talking about a PC hooked up via LAN

Reboot your router … check your DNS settings. Best to set it to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to rule out ISP issues.

And if it’s not to intimate, could you give some examples what pages aren’t working?

It is a page hosting…backup copies of anime series xD

But, a simple turning off and back on of the antivirus helped resolve the issue. Kinda weird it stayed silent for the most time. Just recieved a message that it blocked this page. Turned the antivirus off and back on and it works perfectly fine. Like nothing happened.

Thanks a lot to everyone who tried their best to help me
