Hello all
I Hope you are Well.
I will be using the Sonoff ZBM5 Light Switches throughout the House.
I have a Double Light Switch in the Hallway which Controls the Hallway Light and also the Landing Light.
There is a Single Light Switch on the Landing that Controls the Landing Light.
I Contacted Sonoff on how to Configure the Light Switches for this scenario and they Replied with this:
Set the following Scenes on each of the Two Switches to synchronize the 2 Channels’ States to achieve a similar effect of Dual Control.
If A on then B on
If A off then B off
If B on then A on
If B off then A off
I understand the Logic, however, I have no idea how to Setup Scenes to achieve this, I am relatively New to Home Assistant so am still Learning
If anyone could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Kevin
Sonoff’s answer is based on their app, not on HA. In your case, you need to set up an automation or, better yet, use a blueprint which others have created for this very purpose:
In no particular order (read through the comments and see which one you like)
Be aware that once your switches arrive, you will need to call in an electrician since only 1 of these will be connected directly to your landing light. The other just needs power and will not connect to the switch or light via cable any longer. Any control on that switch will have to be done via zigbee commands.
Hello
Thanks for the Reply and the Information, it is appreciated.
These look to be exactly what I need.
Once Setup, do Blueprints Run Automatically or do the need to be Triggered?
As said, I am still Learning
I will be getting an Electrician in anyway since the Back Boxes in all the Light Switches are Standard 16mm Deep and I need at least 40mm Deep Back Boxes.
He will also be Fitting the ZBM5 Light Switches, I could do it but whilst he is here he may as well.
I will also make sure that he only Connects Power to the Landing Switch and not to the Light so that Wire will need to be made Safe.
Thanks
Kevin
They will behave just like normal automations once set up. Read here for more info About blueprints - Home Assistant
Note that if you only connect Live to the single landing switch and don’t connect a neutral or a bulb, it might not work at all. You can probably get by with using the included capacitor instead of a bulb, but the most stable way would be to use the redundant wire as a neutral.
Show that to your electrician - hopefully he’ll understand ^^
Hello
Thanks for the Reply.
As I understand it there is no Neutral at the Light Switches but there is at the Light Fixture.
When I Fitted a ZBM5 in the Living Room, I used a 20mm Spacer, so that I could Test tem with Home Assistant, the only Wires Connected to the Switch were the Live and Switched Live.
Hopefully, the Light Switch on the Landing will work with just the Live Connected, if not then the only Option would be to get a Neutral Wire run from the Light Fixture to the Light Switch.
Thankfully, being on the Landing, access to the Wiring should be relatively easy from the Loft Space, hopefullt
Thanks
Kevin
It won’t. The switch needs the Switched Live wire to “steal” power from the light & power itself.
You’re gonna need a Neutral there.
Hello
Thanks for the information.
Nothing is ever easy is it
Hopefully, with there being Loft Access it should not be a difficult Job for the Electrician, hopefully.
Thanks
Kevin
