Sonoff outputs - smarter 3D printer

Howdy all.

So I’ve got myself one of those chinese 3d printers that’s based off a prusa i3 that’s now quite heavily modified.

Next step is doing a bit of tidying up of the wiring and adding in smart power switching (printer itself has octoprint and so I’m monitoring that via HA).

So I’m planning to design a lower cover for the PSU that will hide a sonoff board behind it as part of the PSU input, but I’d like to somehow also add in a usb port for my octoprint server off it (one less plug at the wall).

Does anyone know if a sonoff has a constant 5v or 12v on the board I could feed off? Only other option would be to pull off the 12v of the PSU but then the octoprint server would be off when the printer is.

I use a separate 5V DC-DC regulator from the printer DC supply to power the PI. I don’t think the sonoff will have the 5V@2A for the PI.

Be sure to shutdown the PI before cutting the power off to it to prevent corrupting the SD.

I was assuming so.
As my sonoff hasn’t arrived yet I’ve been unable to check the board over properly.

Pulling off the printer itself will be a no go as when the printer’s off the pi will be also off. Ahh well

@CBRHerms,

Just write an automation to shutdown the Octoprint server before powering off the printer.

I have mine working this way with a WiFi power strip running Tasmota.
