I installed the Thirdreality garage door opener and thought it would be convenient to have a button in my vehicle to open and close the garage door. I tested the Sonoff SNZB-01P and it worked. But then I left home and when I returned it did not work. I tried pressing the reset button on the device to wake it but that had no effect. I had to press and hold the reset button then pair it with HA again to get it working.
Is there any type of button that I can take with me in my car then return home and open the garage door with it?
It's not a big deal I can just press the power button on my phone and use a voice command, or HA in Android Auto.
You can try a wifi button instead but I would honestly just use a NFC sticker in the car and just scan that with the phone using the companion app to activate it if you don't just go ahead and setup a dedicated widget on your AA dash.
I was looking for a Wi-Fi button earlier and could not find one. The closest thing I could find were Bluetooth buttons. Can you recommend a wifi button?
Bernie, it makes sense that this doesn't work with a battery powered zigbee device.
Have you thought about using the proximity of the companion app to do it automatically when you are close by or additionally ask you whether you want to open the garagedoor in case you don't always want to open the garagedoor when approaching?
I just setup an NFC tag to open the garage door and turn on the garage lights. Plus I have the HA companion app configured to open when I press and hold the sleep button. Then I can just say "Open the garage door".
But I will certainly keep your suggestion in mind. So you are saying the companion app can actually speak to me when I return home. Interesting!
