Hi - I have a Sonos device I’d like to play a doorbell sound (mp3) to. The Sonos device is registered with the integration. No problem, I can do the play_media thing and it plays. If the Sonos is already playing something, I’d like it to be interrupted and resumed.
I’ve tried the “announce” option and also the “snapshot”/“restore” option. In both cases the stream is stopped, the mp3 plays - and then nothing.
My problem, I believe, is that we (almost) always use this speaker as an Airplay target from a phone: Airplay on the iPhone detects that it has been interrupted, pauses play AND disconnects from the speaker altogether. To restart the stream we have to both “play” the stream and reconnect to Airplay.
Has anyone got this to work, or is this a hopeless task because of the limitations of Airplay?
Hey, I think you may have hit an airplay limitation. I have a sonos speaker and i have several automations, like doorbell, or “put the out the rubbish” announcements, and they work.
However I am using Music Assistant in HA connceted to several of my music providers, Yes the announcments come on pause the music and then music resumes. Maybe try that as an alternative?
Thanks for the response but from a usability angle that’s a no-go … the ease with which you can just take anything off the iPhone and send it to the speaker is very important.
I can of course send notifications to the phone (as long as it one of ours and not a guest’s) so I wondered for a moment whether the Companion App could be called in to play here … but sadly no.
