A bit of a shot in the dark really in case someone has any suggestions I haven’t yet tried.
I’ve got a hot tub with the dreaded Balboa wifi module that I know is prone to various connectivity issues and the specific network access requirements it needs to work properly, but it was all up and running for about a year before I started playing with HA and I just used the BWA iPhone app and connected via the cloud service and it was pretty much no issue at all - it would disconnect every now and then and I’d have to turn the main hot tub breaker off and on again for it to reconnect.
When I started playing with HA and added in the hot tub via Spa Client the wifi module drops off the network every few days - no pattern that I could see, sometimes it might not drop off for a couple of weeks then other times it might keep dropping off in less than a day.
I’ve tried different network adaptors - the spa is right next to the back of the house so pretty decent wifi signal but have tried various tweaks to my network devices and moving the extenders around a bit and various other things during last summer which was when I started playing with HA without any improvement. I mothball the spa during the winter so didn’t have to worry about it but this season I’m having another go.
I found a slighly different integration in HACS - Smart Spa Client instead of the Spa Client I already had so gave that a try. It behaved for a few weeks then just as I was starting to think I solved it, the frequent disconnections began again.
I monitored the wifi signal by the spa for a bit using Netspot on my laptop and could see it did fluctuate quite a bit fairly frequently and at times drop off quite a bit. So the last idea I had was that as the wifi module is encased in the base of the spa inside the metal frame and the various pumps all around which could interfere, maybe the wifi signal just isn’t strong enough. So the other day I ran a cable and fitted a power socket actually in the base of the hot tub where all the other electrics are mounted which is about 3ft away clear line of sight from where the wifi module is mounted and installed a fairly old TP Link powerline wifi extender which meets all the requirements the wifi miodule likes cos its a bit old. Doing a speed test on it from my laptop was giving a steady 30mbps up and down so should be perfect.
But nope - still the same!
Has anyone actually found a way to solve this? When it disconnects, why does it not reconnect itself again - when it’s gone off thje network, I’ve checked the wifi repeater which is still online and functiolning as it should.
I really don’t want to keep having to turn off and on the whole spa by the isolator every few days long term as I’m sure it wont do the spa electrics and systems any good.
