My Home Assistant installation on a Raspberry Pi 4 + SSD, running HA OS, crashed due to a power outage. After reinstalling HA OS, I tried to restore my old installation using a backup. The old installation backup is about 1.7GB in size. During the restore process (i downloaded the backup already to the SSD), the system appears busy. However, after several hours, nothing happens and HA becomes unreachable. When I restart the Raspberry Pi afterward, the new empty installation is still active and no restore has taken place.
i also tried to restore a partial backup, but then the same. Aftere several hours nothing happens!
Is there a way to perform a restore in a stable manner?
Sounds like you have a large DB, try to restore from CLI, first without the DB
And while waiting, shut down your browser and flush all of the cache.
As You might know, no one here can see your log-files, only You can
After restoring from CLI, check your logs, and if there’s anything “relevant”, post it here (RAW log formatted cording to the forums guidelines.)
Yes the system will be busy during a restore, and there is no point in trying to access it before you get a Confirmation that it’s done( In fact don’t even try, let it do it’s job without interference from You )
NOTE: You also forgot to mention which Backup Version(Core/Supervisor/OS) you tried to Apply to your NEW(latest n greatest) HAOS
Operating System Latest 17.0
Core 2026.1.2
Supervisor 2026.01.1
