Hopefully I have posted this is the right location! If not please let me know so I can place it in the correct forum area.
I’m currently in the final stages of buying a small one bed bungalow in the UK which needs renovation (somewhat delayed by Christmas and Covid but hopefully it will complete now towards the end of January)… and by renovation I mean absolutely everything needs work; from re-wiring, to a new kitchen, a new bathroom, new heating… the works - a purchase prime for a smart home project!
So I am looking to the community with all of its experience to help shape what this project looks like.
My current “shopping list” is as follows:
- Raspberry Pi 400 for the Home Assistant software to run on
- Google Nest Hub Max
- Google Nest Protect
- Google Nest Hello Doorbell
- Lightwave Rf light switches and power outlets
- Somfy blinds
- Samsung washing machine, tumble dryer and dishwasher
Somethings I still haven’t worked out:
- Heating
Currently electric night storage heaters are in place and either need refreshing or another heating option selected. The property doesn’t have mains gas and lpg isn’t an option either, so any solution is likely to electric.
Rointe is one option I have spotted but I don’t believe they have an open API and so this isn’t ideal. (They also have a wifi controlled towel rail). Any ideas what is out there I could consider as a better option?
- Front door
The Yale Conexis L1 looks interesting but also seems a little clunky. Anything better? Or is my impression of clunky incorrect?
- And finally
Given this is my first smart home project, are there any areas I haven’t considered that I should be thinking about?
Many thanks for any input you can give me on this journey.
regards,
David
