Since 2 days I have been experiencing very strange hangups of Homeassistant. I was suspecting an issue in the software somehow, since I really did not change anything recently and the system has been running rock stable for over 2 years now. I keep it up to date, but also there is not the issue.
I have reverted back to previous versions, backups, disabled every custom component, but cannot find the problem.
Only starting in Safe Mode shows normal CPU usage, which led me on the path of disabling everything I have. But…no luck. I went as far as disabling even all my automations, scripts and everything I could think of…
I am lost…and that has not happened in the 4 or 5 years I have been using Homeassistant now.
I hope someone here has any more tips or ideas on what I could try. The issue I opened and where my logs and more detailed information can be found is here:
Only thing to do then (I see you state that the issue does not happen in safe mode) is start with everything disabled, then enable one and one to narrow down the issue.
I’m troubleshooting my brothers instance of Home Assistant that has EXACTLY the same problem. Since 2pm his HA OS VM behaves the same as yours, python3 is running at 100% CPU and HA is basically unusable. If we reboot in safe mode, it works flawlessly … I’m as lost as you are …
I cannot explain what the real root cause was, but…for me the issue was with the Landroid Cloud integration. That caused my CPU usage. Just removing the integration was not enough, I also had to delete it from HACS to get my CPU usage back to normal.
It took me a lot of time to find this…I took all the custom_components out of the folder and rebooted each time after adding a few to narrow down what integration caused it.
So…it ended up be Landroid Cloud. But…the strange thing…this morning, since I never give up, I tried reinstalling it again and…same version, same credentials and everything…now it works fine again. (As it did for years now).
I tried exactly the same last night, still with the issue reappearing, removed, issue gone, tried again, issue there…so it really was down to that integration. This morning…magically it all works fine again.
Happy it is all good, this action also actually led me to clean up my installation from some legacy things, so overall happy with the result, but…also very frustrating it is not reproducible anymore. Means it might show up again. At least I now know what to search for.
Thanks for leading me in the direction of Landroid integration. Had the issues yesterday. This morning updated to landroid ver. 5.2.0. Reboot at problem solved.
