Strange disk use increase since 28 September

I have my system running on Ubuntu in a docker environment and it has been stable for over 2 years now. Now…since the 28th of September, my disk use has started increasing and I have no clue what the cause is or…where to start looking.

I am looking for some tips on identifying where the problem might be… Hoping anyone can point me in a direction…

Thanks…but…I am running on Ubuntu in Docker…those things are not available in this installation type.

One thing to check is the size of the recorder database.

System > Repairs (tap on the 3 dots in the upper right corner and choose System Information)

My DB size is large (70 GB) but it has been like that for a year (I like to keep data long). And my DB hasn’t grown…so that’s not it…

I’m checking my file system from time to time using the cmdline tool ncdu. If it is not installed you can install it with

sudo apt update

and

sudo apt install ncdu

.

Most likely it is doing a database check which may take a week and will need to have more than double the DB size as space on the drive (So when a backup happens, there is room for that as well).
HIGHLY suggest getting that down to 2gb or less and push your data to influx or something else that doesn’t have to be quick, agile, and always available for the lights to turn on quickly.

That is what LTS (Long Term Storage) is for. It just condenses data. There’s no point in storing multiple datapoints per minute for years on end. If you really need to have it that detailed (why?) there is indeed Influxdb which is much better equipped.

Try this to investigate what uses your sotrage

apt install gdu
gdu /

Why is your database so large?
