Sunlight Visualizer
See where the sun hits your home—and use it in automations.
Hello!
This is a custom Home Assistant integration with an interactive house card and sunlight sensors for your walls and roof to visualise the sun, sunlight radiation and shadows.
No YAML needed for setup.
I tried to make it as simple to use as possible to create automations that adapt to the current suns position to control your home.
For shading automations, the key sensor is Shading Demand. It gives each wall a value from 0–100%, indicating how useful shading would be.
With Open-Meteo enabled, it adapts to the estimated sunlight reaching that wall throughout the day. Higher values suggest a greater need for shade.
Use the sensors in your own blind, awning, heating or cooling automations:
Sunlight sensors work without a weather API.
Enable Open-Meteo support for sun radiation estimates, shading demand and for local weather.
Sensors:
Sun alignment and angle for each wall and the roof.
Optional Shading Demand (%) to help decide when shade would be useful.
Optional Open-Meteo forecast-based radiation estimates, including direct and diffuse sunlight.
Solar alignment and radiation: Follow sunlight alignment and estimated radiation for your configured roof and solar panel orientation and tilt.- You can see both history and forecast for each wall and the ceiling.
What could you automate?
Blinds and awnings: Lower them when a wall receives strong sunlight and shading demand rises, then reopen as exposure falls.
Room cooling: Combine sunlight and Open-Meteo radiation estimates with room temperature to pre- adjust cooling needed in sun-facing rooms.
Room heating: Reduce heating when sunlight radiation is likely to help warm a room, then return to your usual settings as solar exposure drops.
Right click this GIF and select “Play animation” if it does not autostart.

Solar and energy
Solar panels: View production from your existing solar power sensor.
EV charging: Show charging power in the card using your existing EV power sensor.
Home power: See your home’s current power draw alongside solar production and grid import/export.
Sunlight, shading and sun radiation is the main purpose.
For a little extra atmosphere, you can also enable optional 3D weather visuals.
