Noticed the supervisor has self auto installed itself, but it has not finished as it usually do. Coming up the 3 hour mark. Afraid too perform a restart. What should I do?
I’m not telling you to do this.
But this is what I would do.
I’d click on the X in the top left of the dialogue box and stop it.
Press refresh on the web page.
See if it did actually install, as sometimes it could be your browser or local net issue interrupting a UI update informing you of completion. You might be lucky. If not, I’d reboot, then try the update again. If it fails again, you need to get deeper into diagnostic territory. You would need to post more info.
Take a backup before reboot if you can, just in case. HA has always seemed pretty resilient to me. I’m sure it will be all good.
Some useful information below. Says you it not to manual update.
Home Assistant Supervisor installation delays are commonly caused by DNS resolution failures, Docker Hub rate limiting, or insufficient storage space. The supervisor may appear stuck on “Preparing Home Assistant” or “Waiting for Supervisor to startup” while attempting to pull images from GitHub Container Registry (ghcr.io) or Docker Hub.
Common Solutions:
-
Fix DNS Settings: If the system cannot resolve domain names, the installation will timeout. Change the DNS settings within Settings > System > Network to use Google DNS (8.8.8.8) or Cloudflare DNS (1.1.1.1).
-
Restart the Supervisor: Access the terminal and run
ha supervisor restart. If this fails, perform a full system reboot (ha host reboot) or power cycle the device. -
Wait for Rate Limits: If you see errors related to “too many requests” or Docker Hub limits, wait a few hours before retrying, as these are often temporary server-side restrictions.
-
Check Storage Space: A “404 Client Error” or “no such image” error often indicates that the root partition or data volume is full. Expand the volume or free up space if necessary.
-
Avoid Manual Updates: The supervisor updates automatically. Manually forcing an update during a stuck state can cause it to become unavailable; let the process complete or restart the host.
Refreshing the browser page does nothing. Even the mobile app is showing the spinning icon.
Looking at the supervisor log, the download failed and stopped trying. May it was suppose to stop itself and revert to the beginning of supervisor update available message, but did not for some reason??
