Swedish Product Plejd Video-tour into Manufacturing

SMARTHOME PRODUCT PLEJD IN NORTHERN EUROPE

Not sponsored by the brand. It is not a common brand outside the Nordics and I thought it would be nice to share… Two bloggers have made a video from inside the manufacturing of their smart products.
Plenty of our electronic devices are manufactured in Asia, however 60-70 % of their products are made in Mölndal in the Gothenburg area, Sweden. For anyone interested, link below…

The brand Plejd is not very known outside Sweden, Norway, Finland and Denmark. However I do think it might have been introduced in the Netherlands lately. It is a quality product that started when developing smart systems for luxury yachts in 2009. It wasn’t until 2015 it became available for the home market.

Even though they are installed in many homes, I dont get the sense that it is a brand that home assistant users think of in the first place. Not compared to for example Shelly. They only have Bluetooth and if you want the remote connection via the app, there is a gateway hub.

Thanks to @thomasloven, the great name behind the Lovelace card mod and layout card, I have now the option to integrate them into Home Assistant with the ESP Home Bluetooth Proxy setup and it works really well.

For me its the only smart dimmer products that dims properly. I think it works great with most light sources. I had challenges that I manage to solve by installing the DIM-01 or 02. Local control and making everything like controlling lights work even though a network or HA is down.

In Sweden, rules and regulations around electricity are pretty strict. Its because of… yea you might have guessed, Safety.

The Electrical Safety Act with high safety standards are there to protect us from crap products and saving us from personal injurys or property damage. Products and staff who installs them needs to meet all the requirements made.

As most installations must be done by a registered company or an authorized electrician the Plejd products have been introduced or recommended by them. They are very popular as they are high quality and are rarely failing = little headache for electricians and customers. It has to work. Lately they seem to develop more products like downlights with built in functions and Thermostats.

Watch the video from the manufacturing in Mölndal, Gothenburg.
Its only in Swedish but have captions, just change to your local language. (Works in the browser but cant make it work in the Youtube app.)

Hej Per, looks cool will check out the products. The video is in Swedish though

Checked it out quickly and these products have some limitations on the temperature range, seems there are no warm summers in Sweden.

-20 to +35 °C

Watching in a browser you can activate caption/subtitles and in setting choose your language and it will translate.

Yes there are limitations as with all products. And yes we dont get too warm up here. However +40 degrees C isn’t impossible. It happens. However insulated houses keeps them warm on the winter, in most cases keep the heat out and down in the summer. Some needs aircon as they are not use to heat above +30

I would not replace the Shellys in places and functions where they are brilliant. And most of them are Shelly’s except from in places where I want to have a proper dimmer +1 to 100%. I struggled with older Shelly dimmers that only could handle +30 to 100% and was inconsistent. Strange. Aslo Plejd dont have simple on/off-only models. Price on Shelly models that only needs to be switched on and off are pretty good.

Would love to test and compare different dimmers from differens brands and present the results. Put them up to a challange with different dimmable light sources.
