Hi there people,
has anyone any experience with integrating switchbot’s curtain via shelly BLE gateway?
The gateway seems to operate fine (had previously connected shelly’s TRVs). Switchbot’s unit shows up instantly in their (meaning switchbot) app. Couldn’t pair it though with shelly’s gateway nor via shelly’s mini/relay units with bluetooth RPC enabled. In both cases settings was for ‘active’ scanning.
Cheers for any advice!
I use them with (non Shelly) bluetooth proxies, and that works just fine. Afaik the bluetooth proxy functionality in Shellies is compatible, so that should work too. But that is not the same as the gateway you describe?
I hear you say pair with Shellies - that is not what you should do when used with proxies. I used the Switchbot app to set the curtains up, placed the BT proxy near and installed the integration in HA. that’s it. I even think they were autodetected by HA.
The BT proxy should of course be set up in HA too so they can relay the bluetooth messages. I do not know how that is taken care of for the shellies. I assume the Shelly integration takes care of that, but for regular esp proxies they are connected using the ESPHome integration.
by pairing with shelly BLE gateway I meant pairing TRV’s through shelly’s BLE gataway - it’s working just fine so I assume that the gateway works fine.
I set up switchbot through their app (didn’t calibrate it though). Placed the bot near the shelly’s BLE gateway and pushed pairing button on switchbot.
HA didn’t autodetect, after manually adding switchbot integration i received that no devices were detected and i might try switching my gateway to ‘active’ scanning (which I did)…
Shelly’s don’t allow for active BT connections in HA (which the switchbot requires). The active option you selected is just a mode where they periodically ask any nearby devices to send out their data, but it’s still just passively listening to the data they broadcast (so no back and forth communication).
I assume this is something Shelly has enabled for their hardware specifically (never used them), but for anything that requires Home Assistant it unfortunately won’t work.
ohh, that’s so bad news. in your opinion what bluetooth gateway should i use then?
My config is HA server within proxmox instance based on a laptop
I have a ton of these around my house (all are other devices that I made that simultaneously act as BT Proxies).
Edit: And yeah, it’s a bummer with the Shellies not acting as active BT Proxies; I have a couple instances where it’d be super-convenient.
