Hi everyone, first time posting after finding this thread from the Sydney Down Under user group meet up. I know this is general chat but I prefer to seek answers from our local AU group before going hard into the HA forums…!
I am investigating new cameras that have line sensor triggers - use case is our dog likes to wander out of the garage door when it’s left open and explore the neighbourhood. I have alerts set up for when the garage door has been opened and escalating alerts for the duration it’s been open but that’s no longer enough. My Eufy cameras are battery so don’t alert quickly enough when he’s in the driveway.
I was looking at Reolink Elite Floodlight but keen to understand if anyone else has other ideas or solutions that work? TIA
Hey Megan, I haven’t tried line crossing on reolink cameras, but I do use it on some unifi cameras at my warehouse, it works pretty well.

I have found the Australia - electrically certified hardware thread to be quite active and full of good local advice.
Would you be able to run an ethernet cable to where you want the camera ? If so, have a look at POE (Power Over Ethernet) since you get the benefit of fast secure communication and remove the need for batteries.
But generally I wonder if a camera would be the best option, since its view can be obscured (by say a car in the driveway), and it will detect other motion (like a courier delivery or a neighbours dog).
I assume you have considered adding a tag to the dogs collar, which could if you want to go all out, report its GPS coordinates to help you go find it ?
