Synology integration returns error

Hi!

I connected my Synology NAS to Home Assistant (HAOS x64 install) and everything was working fine. This morning, while connecting to HA, it told me it couldn’t backup to Synology. Looking at the integration, it gives me this message (apart for the xes for the IP and port, everything else is a direct copy):

“ClientConnectorError = ConnectionKey(host=‘192.xxx.x.xx’, port=xxxx, is_ssl=False, ssl=True, proxy=None, proxy_auth=None, proxy_headers_hash=None)”

HA tells me “500 internal server error server got itself in trouble”

I tried restarting the integration, restarting HA, and am wary of trying too many other things and accidentally breaking stuff.

I have played with automations (none of which involve Synology, just lights and motion sensors). I don’t see how that could have damaged the integration.

A couple of things you might want to try …

See if you can ping the Synology diskstation from the HA terminal Add-on to check the connection. If ping is not working then check the physical connection and any related firewall rules or VLAN’s you may have setup.

Secondly check that your Synology user account for HA access is correctly setup, I think this is required to be an admin but access is not required to any shared folders except for backups which it sounds like you are using.

Other than that I am not sure what to suggest.

I have not set up any firewall, VLAN or anything. And didn’t change anything to my configuration, except making the HA admin (me) an “advanced” user, but that was after the first sighting of the problem.

I can’t even configure the Synology integration, when I click “configure” I get the “configuration could not be loaded: 500 Internal Server Error Server got itself in trouble”.

I’ll try to remove then add back the integration, I don’t see anything else to try either.

Well, what do you know. It was a problem on the NAS side. An update to its Drive Server was hanging but it didn’t show in the interface. I could not even restart it, I had to unplug it and then it gave me all sorts of warnings, told me it had to redo said update, and once it was completed the NAS showed up in HA.

Of course, since I had removed the integration I had to do it back again, but it took two minutes.

I’m happy it’s resolved, less happy about the hidden failed update.
