Hi, is there any way to install Home Assistant on a Synology TS-251?
see in ChatGpt …
Synology ts-251? You mean qnap ts-251?
Yes qnap ts -251 but more good qvestion if is powerful enough
Well, there’s no harm in trying, i guess. If i see correctly it has dual core celeron, so it has potentials.
Does this qnap has option to create VM’s? if so, try and see…
Thats a celeron with default 2gb memory, if HA is the only thing to run, it will be fine. If you need anything else on that hardware, at least expand the memory to 8gb
The biggest question would be if the firmware configuration can be switched from legacy CSM (~BIOS) to UEFI, Synology appears to be running those in legacy CSM mode.
Among model description there’s:
- Run multiple Windows®, Linux®, UNIX® and Android™ based virtual machines with the Virtualization Station
so VM is possible - in this case legacy or UEFI will be selectable when creating VM. Only thing is to check whether HA will run decently fast.
And, as suggested, RAM upgrade will be a must if you only have 2GB, since at least that amount is needed for HA. Go for at least 8GB (more, better, for later use).
