Tado rate limiting API calls

unfortunately you can’t. That’s the limitation to tado_hijack. It will NOT report TRV temperatures or control options for TRV’s, you have to install homekit and pair them up with that also.

this bit in hijack clarifies it:

Why should anyone accept this restriction? An EU law stipulates that this unprocessed data must be made available continuously, at all times, and free of charge.

TADO is not complying with existing laws.

I am not sure what EU law are you referring to, but I am quite sure this cannot be covered by any law. Tado does not have to provide for free their service, as they do have to maintain service online and having many calls to the service does cost them money while people buy their product once and don’t want to pay subscription.

It is whole another story that while building user base they did not state clearly that they will start charging for the service, and that they provided only very shitty local control on their product - weather by omissions or pure malice - it’s up for discussion. Bordering to good old “Bait-and-switch” .

Digital data act
Of course, they can charge for additional services - If there is no option to read data from the device, the raw data have to be provided for free - at any time

Data act is:

  • only for new products placed generally after September this year (future)
  • very unlikely to cover any device sold before 2026
  • requires vendors to provide access to data, not the API - they could give you something like ZIP download of your data and be legal
  • enforcement is still immature, regulators are probably figuring out interpretation

So, probably not the way to expect solution.
