Tado X integration - is this even possible?

Hi all, this might be a naive question but I thought I can integrate the Tado receiver and thermostat X into HA and use it in a similar way I use lightbulbs and smart plugs etc from different vendors within HA via the Zigbee integration.

So I was expecting I could combine the Tado devices with cheaper Sonoff radiator valves and cheap temperature sensors in each room to create HA automations that would control central heating and individual room temps

And now I’m looking like an idiot at the Tado integration where I only see one device that doesn’t expose temperature at all… then I try to bring the Tado devices in the Matter integration and I am completely lost honestly… is what I want even possible at this stage?

I would like to understand that to begin with, I don’t have time to start learning Matter if that’s not even possible for some reason.
Thank you

It should be possible to get the Tado X room thermostat to swich your heating on and off (by providing a high or low set temperature), so theoretically you can do this. Any smarts (like schedules, geo-fencing etc.) would need to be provided by Home Assistant. There are some custom integrations for that, but I personally haven’t used them.

I was hoping I could use a cheap temperature sensor to tell the tado X receiver when to stop or start the central heating and to open or close cheap radiator valves in the same room with the sensor.
I can do this in the tado app if I buy their radiator valves and temperature sensors that cost between 5 and 10x more than everything else on the market…

Unfortunately, Matter (and Homekit before it) only provide for limited “generic” thermostat functionality. Vendors could work around that with custom features, but only some lile Eve did.

Matter has updated capabilities with 1.4 I believe, but Tado to my knowledge has not updated the X series. I suspect that there is little incentive for them (but I still hope the do eventually, there HW looks really nice, and I’d have an excuse to switch from Netatmo).

thanks. sounds like what I want is not possible and probably won’t be for a while…

Did you try reaching out to Tado already? Sometimes they are reacting quickly on their forum, sometimes not

I fear that providing a functionally complete Matter implementation may not be in their financial interest :person_shrugging:
