Tapo frequent error

Hi, I’m frequently getting the follow error on Tapo Sockets. Authentication required for device x. If I’m home in the local network I enter username and password and it’s OK. If I’m away, entering the user name and password via the nabucasa app fails every time. Is there a known bug in the app? Pete

Do you want me to look in the Github Repo for you ?
In that case i need some more details like Device-name, and also some “research” in regards to “Frequently getting errors”
Like is it loosing connection and have to be paired again etc. , Do you ever check the RAW-Log to see whether this “Authentication required” is a Symptom of a previous disconnect or errors ? … etc

It’s random devices, this time is the socket that runs the porch light. Often happens if I update the tapo integration. That’s usually cleared by using the Tapo app, switching off and then on again the third party integration. It’s only a problem when I’m away from home, usually in another country and can’t access the local network. I’ll see if I can get a screen shot

Which “Tapo integration” Are you referring to ? , TP-Link ? , or
Not that i think it matters, the “unlink-link 3rd part” is a known " workarouond " for a few issues with Tapo Devices, i doubt Dev’s will ever find a solution for those “issues” as it’s do to TP-Links(company)'s firmware “policies that sucks”
Thou i don’t have these issues for my TAPO plugs/sensors/light-strips or Cameras, lately

That’s hardly the right answer to my question, but my final answer is this
Try to use the search function in here, and i.e see if you find other more suitable workaround/solutions, for your “Random Devices”

I say random, what I should say it’s random smart plugs, mainly P100 P110 of which there are 45 in my setup

I add it’s not so much it happens, but that using the correct user/ password I can only correct it on the local network. Via the app, it’s always rejected as in the screenshot

Just as an update I am now back and entering the same username and password locally has cleared the error

Ok, im not aware of how the Nabu-casa, connection works, but i would start to report a bug, in the TP-link-Intergation on HA’s Github

Is x.x.x.66 the ip of your local device, or the IP of the device you are using th APP in ?

Anyhow , open an issue on Github.
But also try to “investigate” why your devices keeps “requesting new credentials”, as mention none of my Tapo does this, for long time now ( yes they are all on latest firmware :frowning: , and i also have a dozen p100 & p115 plugs )
And yes, they also “spew” other “errors” which is reported, but doesn’t seems Dev’s will/can fix it, there are a recommended workaround is in the “updated” Integration page under supported devices ( but for my errors this is not working )
TP-Link Smart Home - Home Assistant .
And some people goes into the tapo phone-app and disable, And again Re-enable 3rd party compatibility , and it will work again … for awhile

Thou it doesn’t seems to be the same problem you have, as it should be possible to do this , and authenticate regardless where/how you connect with the phone-app
