Hi, I cannot seem to get the P110 smart switch to work with HA over a VLAN. I have an inter-VLAN rule to pass traffic to UDP 20002, and also enabled third party compatibility on the Tapo app, but I’m getting the following error using the TP Link Smart Home integration:
Connection error: ('Unable to query the device: 192.168.10.167: ', TimeoutError())
Segmented networks are not officially supported within HA.
HA is designed and expects a flat subnet to work as intended.
Just learn about firewall rules and subnet masks and use them instead of VLANS otherwise you will get nothing but pain.
This is because every segmented network is different for IP’s and number of segments and firewalls and sharing rules and about 650495849085 other things.
This does not mean you can’t use them or that they can’t be made to work, it means that to get them working you are the support structure on your own subnet(s). Consider it Advanced mode…
I second the opinion of SG. The product which you describe is sold for home automation. The task which you describe using a VLAN implies city-wide or world-wide remote control of your smart plug from anything which has the right settings to get into the network segment containing your smart switch, including some evil minions in Yelabuga. Is the world a better place if they might, in principle, be able to access your smart plug switching ?
