:test_tube: Testers Wanted: Try the New WordPlay Game Panel for Home Assistant!

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for puzzle lovers and curious tinkerers to help test WordPlay, a new custom integration that brings a full-featured word guessing game right into your Home Assistant sidebar! :video_game:

This is more than a basic word game — it’s a sleek, responsive HTML panel that blends seamlessly into Home Assistant, with a polished interface and smooth gameplay across all devices.

:bulb: What You’ll Get:

  • A clean, interactive word puzzle game available from your HA sidebar
  • Works great on desktop, tablet, mobile, or even your wall dashboard
  • Fully theme-aware (light/dark), touch-friendly, and plays well with your existing setup
  • Anti-cheat mechanics and game logic tuned to keep things fun and fair

:earth_africa: International Testers Needed!

We’re especially looking for testers with Home Assistant set to French, German, or Spanish (or any non-English locale). The game is designed to automatically detect and use your Home Assistant language settings — but this hasn’t been fully tested yet.

If your HA instance is localized and you speak one of those languages, we’d really appreciate your help to test how the UI, messages, and gameplay adapt in different environments.

:warning: Heads up for US users: The current word list is based on UK English, so you may see a few unfamiliar British words. A toggle or alternative list may come later, depending on feedback.

:test_tube: What We’d Love From You:

  • Install it, play a few games, and let us know what works and what doesn’t
  • Report bugs, language issues, layout problems, or odd behaviour
  • Try it on different screen sizes and devices — especially if you use tablets or dashboards
  • If you’re bilingual or testing localization, let us know if the language handling works as expected

:hammer_and_wrench: Installation (Custom HACS Repo)

This isn’t in the default HACS store yet, so to install:

  1. Open HACS → Integrations → ⋮ → Custom repositories
  2. Add this repo:
    https://github.com/CBDesignS/ha-wordplay
  3. Category: Integration
  4. Find and install WordPlay

Then just refresh your browser and look for “WordPlay” in your sidebar.

Hi

Thanks for the share and the work and quite fun, working fine on my side :wink: Only issue so far: it works only in english, didn’t switch automatically to French as my HA account is setup in French !

Sorry about that. some of the code was messed up. there is a testing branch in the the github v5.0.4 should contain all the latest code and full I18n locale translations. its for testing as a lot of code has been re-written and a few bugs still exist that I have not found the time to squash yet. Its close to final release code so should be stable enough for testing on different language systems. I think German, French & Spanish is complete as far as I can test.
