Yeah, no worries. I run everything on a PI4 so I’m always concerned about losing functionality if HA happens to go down. With Matter being (mostly) platform agnostic, it eliminates a pretty big single point of failure as I can still control devices, even if it’s basic control, with other platforms like my phone or a voice assistant. I love ESPHome, but, at least to me, the fact you must route it either to the HA API or MQTT is a pretty heavy point of failure. Tasmota Device Groups for ESPHome helps because you can program devices to talk between each other somewhat, but you still have no external control.

I really like the new matter server, I’ve been using it with a bunch of the Ikea devices, OK they were somewhat unreliable at first but with the later firmware the new matter server can install they seem to be pretty good (for the most part).
One question, in the network diagram I have some matter over threads devices that are showing red, is there a simple way to identify what HA devices / entities they relate to ? That way I’ll be able to easily figure out what to reset, power cycle etc. At the moment I get the services serial number, but I haven’t found any way to work this out. Even looking at each HA device in turn for unavailable doesn’t alwasy work if there are a couple that are red on the diagram
I’m late to this but I just wanted to say that Matter(and Thread) finally works great for me now. A week ago I noticed that I could merge my Thread networks. I was one of those guys who bought a USB dongle to use as my TBR, but I couldn’t use it because it created its own Thread network and my phone refused to use it to commission devices. And I wasn’t willing to delete my Google Play services to solve this.
But the merging option solved my problems as I could add my SLZB-07 to the NESTPAN network that I was stuck with. After syncing credentials I was easily able to migrate my 6 Thread devices from the Aqara M100 to the SLZB pain free. That gave me the confidence to go and buy 7 more Thread devices from Ikea and again it was a pain free experience.
I hope this is the beginning of a new era where it will always be this easy. I never want to go through those early years again, or even early this year when it was still a nightmare lol.
