Thermostat and emergency heat

I currently have a Google nest thermostat but it doesn’t do emergency heat well. We use heat strips as backup to the heat pump and they can get expensive very quickly. I am looking to switching to a new thermostat. I have seen many people recommend the ecobee one connected via homekit. My question is does it allow you to control the emergency heat use via automations? If not, can you recommend a thermostat that does.

You need to state a location and what your preferred choice of technology is.

I personally use HomeMatic IP thermostats, that have built-in boost function that can be controlled in length, but it is it’s own ecosystem, al though well-integrated with HA and local.
I like the fact that my heating can work independently from HA and the Homematic IP system can even function without the CCU, because the devices can be bound directly together too, so wall thermometers, thermostats and door/window sensors can act on each others state changes.

I live in the US. I did ask about the Ecobee one connected by homekit. I do have zigbee and zwave available and do not want to add more hubs than that. I would prefer local connection via HA though.
