I’ve been running with a Tado thermostat for a while. I’ve been using the “demand” percentage from the integration to command the heating configuration.
Problem is, this needs an internet connection, and occasionally, the Tado integration falls over and asks for re-admission to the Tado cloud.
It’s a pity, as Tado has worked really well at managing the house heating, but I really don’t want anything relying on a cloud connection if possible.
What are people’s recommendations for non-cloud smart thermostats?
I’ve been looking at OpenTherm… any other recommendations?
The thermostat I want would have to be able to provide me with a variable for “demand” rather than on/off and I’d like to be able to have access to the set temperature by HA - so I can automate the set back at high electricity price moments.
If you add the Taro to Homekit on an IOS device, it will from then on be available through the Homekit bridge in HA. No more need for cloud connectivity from that point on.
It does not however show you the ‘demand’ .
Hive are Zigbee and work with just about any UK boiler. You can run them fully locally without a Hive Hub. The newer model of receivers also support OpenTherm.
I do not yet have own experience. But I am searching for an thermostat to replace my 230 V manual thermostats. In my focus at them moment is Aqara W500 that can run in Matter mode or in ZigBee mode.
