Thermostat Temperature vs. HVAC mode

Hi all,

I am currently in the process of configuring a set of Danfoss Ally thermostats with homeassisant.
I am a little bit confused by the options HVAC mode vs. temperature. For example I have a schedule for my kids room that indicates when she is at school.

Should I

a) set HVAC mode to off
b) drop to a lower temperature

also: If HVAC mode is off, the selected temperature is ignored right?

If you do not want to condition the room at all while she is away set the mode to ‘off’. If you want to condition the room at a different set point while she is away, lower the temperature and leave the mode on heat.
