Thinking of HA over Hubitat - Questions about Google Home and Smartthings

Hey guys,

I have only had my Hubitat a couple of days and so far, its ok. I bought it mostly to function as a universal zigbee hub for some temp sensors I bought. But, I have been exploring some of its other capabilities. One of the more interesting ones is a custom google home integration that allows me to present devices however I wish to GH. For instance, my Aqara temp sensors would error out when trying to pass them to GH, so I was able to remap them as generic sensors that GH understands and pass the temp and humidity variables to the fake sensor. All good

But the more I try to expand on things, the more roadblocks I keep running into. And based on what I have read, HA may be able to handle my situations a little more gracefully.

In an ideal world, everything would be passed seamlessly to google home. But overall, I don’t care if my ‘dashboard’ is Google Home, Hubitat, or HA, as long as the WAF is high.

  1. Fans / Child Objects - I have a remote controlled ceiling fan that is way too high for me to attempt to reach, replace or service. So I bought a Bond Hub and mapped my fan remote to Bond, installed the driver in hubitat, and presented it to Google Home. In general, google home does not seem to handle child objects well. What I would like to see if a single tile for ‘ceiling fan’ then when i click on it, I would see some other buttons like Fan on/off, High, Low, Medium. Even if the child buttons were ‘switches’ that controlled the fan speed, that would be fine. But GH seems to not like fan speed much anymore. Is there an HA solution for this?

1B. Similar question. I would like to create a “refrigerator” Tile in GH and the have a child object for Refrigerator temp, and Freezer temp. Or really any solution that allows me to show this in a single tile

  1. SmartThings - As mentioned, I have been playing around with Aqara temp sensors. When placing those in my fridge, I noticed that my fridge has a temp sensor and water filter reminder. So I linked to SmartThings and everything is there. Freezer temp, Fridge temp, everything. But there does not seem to be a way to integrate with hubitat. Can anyone speak to how ST and HA integration works?
  1. Yes, expose a fan entity, and if necessary create a template fan for thhhat.

    B. there’s no concept of a fridge/freezer in HA, and your first problem is whether Google Assistant supports that kind of tile

  2. There’s a SmartThings integration
