ThirdReality ZigBee vibration sensor: How do I turn it on/off?

I have a Third Reality ZigBee vibration sensor, which also has an integrated alarm.

When pairing the sensor using ZHA, the vibration signal is exposed as binary_input.

This is all good, but what I also need is a way to turn off the alarm during times when people e.g. open the window to which it is attached. I somehow thought that such an on/off switch (and also other features) would also be exposed, but at least I cannot find them or don’t know how to access them.

Any idea?

A simple hardware on/off switch like that probably just cuts off one of the wires to the speaker, so it’s not available even to the internals of the device itself as controllable.

It doesn’t look like the siren is exposed in Z2M either (if I linked the same device):

I think in that case I’d turn the siren off and use an automation to build the equivalent level of notification. That way you have complete control over the timing of notifications, like having the sensor trigger an automation that says “the upstairs window has been opened” if the alarm is armed, etc.

The always on alarm was what steered me away from this sensor (seems a very dumb/limiting design choice), a bummer as I have had good success with ThirdReality zigbee products. I have been using this vibration sensor for sensing mailbox vibrations (link below), it has been working pretty well, however the way it reports various angles and ‘senses’ is a bit odd. But for simple vibration detection, it seems pretty good. Battery life is middle of road. Good side, it has an hourly temperature transmission that can be used as a simple heartbeat. I use Zigbee2MQTT, not ZHA so do check compatibility with your Zigbee choice.

Good hunting!

I have a TR Zigbee vibration sensor, model: 3RVS01031Z

Mine has a DIP switch inside that can be used to turn on/off the “siren” (its not super loud).

Anyway as far as I can tell its hardwired, if the DIP is set to ON the siren goes off every time motion is detected. There are no Zigbee controls the siren and the sensitivity is all set by DIP switches.
