Thread: "No border routers were found. Check your border router is configured correctly or reset it to factory settings."

I got some help on Discord with the issue:

  • I don’t need to change the internet ipv6 configuration, that doesn’t do anything for local devices and again my ISP currently doesn’t support ipv6.
  • For the network configuration, I needed to change the ipv6 config to static and set a valid ULA prefix, I set it to fd12:3456:789a::.
  • The biggest issue turned out to be that I’m running the container on Orbstack: a 3rd party docker container on macOS which provides but has bugs, including ones related to networking including host networking with HA really needs.

Since I was planning on moving HA from my mac desktop to my NixOS server desktop, I converted HA’s docker-compose.yaml to nix configuration using compose2nix. I also added the following to allow the ports needs for HA, mDNS, and Homekit integrations:

  networking.firewall = {
    allowedUDPPorts = [ 5353 ]; # mDNS
    allowedTCPPorts = [ 8123 ]; # HA
    allowedTCPPortRanges = [
      {
        from = 21000;
        to = 21110;
      }
    ];
  };

I kept the port the same (the default for me): 8080.

However, I now have another problem, with my doorknob: Thorbolt MK1, now that I got the thread border router working and the doorknob connected, everything works except lock & unlocking when thread credentials are sent. It only works without thread credentials: Homekit-only thread doorknob: everything works except locking and unlocking
