Would it be possible to have a feature which rate-limits the backup upload speed (to Home Assistant Cloud)? My ISP upload speed is relatively limited, and the daily HA backup causes other items to stutter or drop for a while.
I can limit it at my router, of course, but it would be nice to have a native capability.
But this would be the best solution, as the bottleneck is your WAN upload speed. Adding some kind of throttling in the backup platform of the cloud integration, would only limit exactly this integration, but not Home Assistant at all - so every other integration can still cause a heavy upload (eq. speedtest, other backup integration, an add-on or some custom components)
So implement the limitation at the point of the bottleneck is the best solution, as it works overall and limits all traffic coming from HA.
I am experiencing the same and I think limiting at the router is not the best solution because I would like to have the choice to limit only the backup but allow some other service to be free to use the upload when needed.
I’ve addressed this in my own setup by limiting Home Assistant’s upload speed to 75% of my upload bandwidth. It has fixed the packet loss issue without apparently compromising HA in any way (as far as I can tell, no other HA component comes even close to needing this much bandwidth).
