Time-based control of your Philips Hue lights after a power outage

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding my Philips Hue lights with Philips Hue Bridge. In the Hue app, I can set a default color and brightness for the lights when they turn on after a power outage. However, this setting is static. The problem is that at night, the lights turn on at full brightness, which is way too bright for those hours.

I’m looking for a solution to make the lights behave differently depending on the time of day:

  • During the day: bright lighting
  • At night: dimmed lighting

Does anyone know how to implement this?

I tried with IF “off” → “on” and IF “unavailable” → “on” … but both didn’t work as expected.

The “off” → “on” works from time to time … but I’m wondering why it doesn’t work all the time… and it takes about 5 seconds to get the action started.

I’d appreciate any advice or tips!

Thanks in advance,
Greg

Hue itself will shortly receive support for “all-day scenes”, where you can use different settings depending on time of day. If you really want all lights to turn on after a power outage (I sure wouldn’t), using such a scene for the power on behavior would probably be by far the easiest way.

Do you have Home Assistant on an UPS? Otherwise surely Home Assistant will also go down in the event of a power outage. Also the Hue Bridge would presumably go down as well. Lots of things to take into account…

Thank you for the answer.

It’s a power switch on the wall that forces the hue light to turn off… that’s why I was searching for possible solutions to get this fixed without buying the hue power switch or some Shelly switches. So yes I want to use the light after a power off… I was curious if somebody forces the same problems that I have.

Thank you!
