Timeouts in zigbee2mqtt logs - automation not working

I had a working system with Home Assistant. I have had zigbee2mqtt running for months with a lot of devices connected. Lately, the system has become unreliable. Automations stop working and there is no longer data coming in from my zigbee devices. When this happened before,
I simply restarted zigbee2mqtt and everything worked again… until they stop working a few days later. There was nothing obvious in the Home Assistant Core logs.

It happened again today. Instead of restarting zigbee2mqtt, I inspected the zigbee2mqtt log file. When I clicked one of the switches in the overview it generated this message:

[28/09/2026, 20:15:18] z2m: Publish 'set' 'state' to 'Salt lamp' failed: 'Error: ZCL command 0x18fc260000090744/1 genOnOff.on({}, {"timeout":10000,"disableResponse":false,"disableRecovery":false,"disableDefaultResponse":false,"direction":0,"reservedBits":0,"writeUndiv":false}) failed (SRSP - AF - dataRequest after 6000ms)'

I am running HAOS on a HP thin client. I have a sonoff zigbee dongle P.
Does anybody know what can cause this? Can it be that I have to many zigbee devices connected ( I have 42 at the moment)? I’d like to find the root cause of this issue because my home automation has become unreliable.
