Toothbrushing with visual feedback

Started out this HA journey some two weeks ago (thanks for the beginner support, everyone!). The most recent automation is not very complicated technically, but could have great long term effect.

For some time we’ve been using Alexa to start a timer for my 6YO son’s toothbrushing. It’s not very fun and with no fanfare when the chore is done. Also, I want to ditch Alexa…

So I set him up with a bulb and a button to get started. On click, the bulb lights up with color red, after a minute it goes to yellow, and at the 2 minute mark it turns green and then turns off after 10 seconds. When it turns off he knows he’s done.

Our LED panel in the living room now lights up with an confetti animation and a “Chore done!” text.

Best of all, he thinks all this is the cooooooolest!

I added a counter in HA… not sure if I want to use that for anything other than fun scoreboard style information (he’s not overusing the internet or anything like that (yet…)).

Next step will be to add a speaker and play fun jingle together with the LED animation. Also, I might reuse this style of fun feedback for his piano practice.
Oh, and I plan to upgrade his bulb to a nice LED strip around the mirror in the bathroom to up the cool factor

I would love to hear if anyone else here has added a little fun to chores with HA.

Some electric toothbrushes, like from Oral-B, actually have Bluetooth built-in that can be tracked by the BLE tracker in HA, which can b used to automate it further.
