I have 3 of these devices in HA but I have a few questions. These say they are matter compatible but if I scan one of these into matter I only get basic on off functionality of the device. None of the entities seem to be exposed when connected via matter. Is there a reason for this?
If I use the Kasa app it finds the device and I can update the firmware and fully control it. And once setup the TP-Link integration is able to see it immediately! But it asks for my username password for kasa… If it’s local why would it need my TP-Link credentials. it feels like it has to use the cloud for some reason. I know it’s talking to it local but I’m more worried what happens if tp-link goes away? will these plugs become useless? how can I add devices in the future if tp-link goes away and it requires credentials?
Curious if others can shed a light on how these plugs actually function
