TP Link Tapo Issue

I asked this question in a previous post, but didn’t get a response so I’m posting this separately.

I am new to HA. I added the TP Link Tapo integration several days ago. I had already added several smart switches to the Tapo app and all of those were easily added to HA. Since then, I’ve been adding additional switches into the Tapo app as I get them installed. I am able to add them to the Tapo app, but the problem comes when I try to add them into HA. It appears that the switches show up after discovery (listed by IP address, not by name), but when I try to add them into HA, it asks for authentication with my Tapo email and password.

This is where I have a problem. HA says:
“Unable to authenticate: Device response did not match our challenge on ip 192.168.0.XXX, check that your e-mail and password (both case-sensitive) are correct.”

I’ve turned on Third-Party compatibility and turned off Two-Factor Authentication in the Tapo app. I’ve updated and restarted HA. I’ve made sure my email and password are case correct, but I’m stumped.

Any suggestions?

I have the same issue all of a sudden non of my devices can authenticate. Last week they were fine.

This problem is the result of a recent firmware update by TP-Link. There is an active discussion on github TP15 authentication failure after upgrade to firmware 1.4.2 · Issue #1653 · python-kasa/python-kasa · GitHub - I don’t pretend to understand the details, but it looks as if people are doing their best to resolve it. For what it’s worth, enabling third-party compatibility worked for me. Sorry this isn’t much help, but it seems the problem is known about and being addressed.
