Hoping someone has a clever idea for this…I’m struggling to think how to best manage it.
I just got an EV at home, but I need to find a way to track “my share” of extra power billing now. I have a Z-Wave monitor on the circuits (2 outlets) that gives per-outlet watts-now and watt-hour counter.
The difficulty is we also have friends visit and use the same outlets regularly, and I use them for running a welder from time to time. I need some way to track only my EV charging on them.
My idea is to have “something” that I can hit a button at the start of charging when I want to track it for my car, but if the button isn’t hit it won’t count that power. Then I can feed that into something which would do monthly intervals and convert to $/kwh to tell me how much I owe.
I just can’t dream up how I’d track the energy ONLY when I hit a button and stop tracking at end of charge (when <100 watts for >10 minutes)
How about an NFC tag on your charge lead that you can scan with your phone?
You can use that (or whatever method you choose) to automate switching tariffs on a utility meter (me / everything else). This will split the energy into seperate sensors.
