Hi everyone,
I’m struggling to get a remote camera feed to pop up on my Android TV (using the pipup integration) when motion is detected.
My Setup:
-
Topoli (Local): Home Assistant instance + Android TV with the PipUp app installed.
-
Kabakum (Remote): IP Camera (
camera.kabakum_fluent) + a separate Home Assistant instance. -
Both sites are connected via Tailscale. The remote camera is successfully imported into the Topoli HA via remote integration and plays fine in the dashboard.
What works: PipUp successfully displays notifications and test streams if they are simple or local.
What we’ve tried:
-
Direct streams / Go2rtc: Tried using Go2rtc and proxy streams (
api/camera_proxy_stream/...orapi/stream.mp4), but the TV always ends up with a black loading screen, likely due to cross-network routing/authentication token limitations over Tailscale. -
Snapshots: We tried falling back to sending a saved
.jpgsnapshot from/local/, but callingpipup.sendconsistently throws YAML schema errors likeextra keys not allowed @ data[media]ordata[image].
My Questions:
-
Has anyone successfully managed a remote/Tailscale camera stream into PipUp on Android TV? What was your approach?
-
What is the exact, currently working YAML payload structure for sending a local snapshot image to
pipup.sendwithout hitting the schema validation error?
Any advice or code examples would be greatly appreciated!
