Trying Home Assistant on iHost: Initial Impressions

I recently tried running Home Assistant on the SONOFF iHost as part of an open-source project. The installation went smoothly following the provided documentation.

So far, I’ve tested a few basic integrations (ESPHome, Node-RED) and local device control. Performance seems acceptable for a 32-bit ARM device, though I haven’t done anything too heavy yet.

Has anyone else tried this setup? Would be interested to hear others’ impressions, especially with more complex configurations.

Hello RDevin1,

The 32bit versions of the OS have been deprecated…

Hello @Sir_Goodenough

Thanks for the reminder!
Yeah I saw the system message too — looks like official support for 32-bit armv7 is ending in about 6 months.

That said, I happen to have a spare iHost lying around, so I figured I’d use it to get a feel for HA — and so far it’s been a surprisingly good experience!

Even on the current 32-bit iHost, I was able to get Matter Server, Matter Bridge, and OpenThread running, so I could make full use of my Matter devices at home.

Also read somewhere that a new iHost is planned for release later this year — upgraded to a 64-bit SoC and improved hardware. Looking forward to that! Hopefully I’ll be able to migrate my current setup over when it’s out.

Hello @RDevin1, how were you able to install the esphome builder on the iHost. It does not seem to be supported on 32-bit architecture.
