Tuya-like blaster, IR learned code fails with one "switch"

I bought a couple of these Zigbee2MQTT (only) IR Blaster from AliExpress to control our ceiling fan lights.

I can get them to work, so this isn't critical, but it doesn't make sense to me and I wondered if others have seen similar.

The fans have a light on/off switch and 3 speed options and "off" for the actual fan. The IR Blaster exposes 6 on/off switches so 12 IR codes can be learned. (And I only need 6)

The bit I don't understand is that if I "teach" Switch 2 ON to be the slow fan speed setting, the fan just doesn't respond.

If I "teach" Switch 6 ON to be the slow speed setting, it's fine.

This doesn't make sense to me and both devices do the same thing.
