So for various historical reasons¹, my house and my garage/workshop have completely separate electrical systems. It has its own electrical panel connected to its own meter, and while they’re both accessible from our Evergy account, we get an individual monthly bill for it.
Which immediately begs the question of, now I’m extending our home automation out to said garage/workshop, how I set this up in Home Assistant for energy tracking?
Can the energy dashboard back-end understand multiple grid sources? (I know that I can add multiple entities to the “Grid consumption” section, but I don’t think that it understands that these are separate, unconnected systems?)
And how do I tell Home Assistant which grid source any given individual device is connected to, so it can follow the electrical load through the system properly?
Anyone else with an electrical system like this, I would appreciate your insights.
- They’re not that close together, and it’s my understanding that the owner-two-before-us who built the garage was using it as a welding workshop and wanted a dedicated power supply for that.
