I’m sharing this even though it may be known or dumb .
I do a lot of testing and setup a 2nd instance in VMware Workstation Pro on top of Ubuntu desktop in the PC. Future primary instance maybe.
Original and current primary is Nabu Casa Green.
So, to get two seperate companion apps on one phone?
Samsung S24 Ultra. I added the companion app to the Secure Folder, works so far, may have a hitch I’m unaware of, but seems to work and access ok. So far. Time will tell.
I’ll look at the HACs remote instance integration also, but later on.
Nope, you can define multiple instances in the same app in Settings - Companion App - Servers & Devices - + Add server
And then use a 3-finger swipe (at least on Android) to move between those instances.
Hi, I just added a second household as the second instance to HA. But when I added the Tuya integration to HA to this second household, it loaded automatically all the devices from the first instance, none of which are phisically present at the second household. Do I also have to somehow setup two instances within Tuya or should I have two separate Tuya apps to control two location?
Sounds to me like you have to split your Tuya devices across two Tuya accounts - one for each location.
Otherwise, all devices will show up in both HA instances because the Tuya Integration cannot distinguish where these devices are.
You should be able to ignore or disable individual devices in the Tuya integration of the respective HA instance, though:
Thank you. Among the list of non ideal options, the two Tuya accounts sound like the best solution.
The next thing to solve will be the backup, which I recently managed to link to my Google Drive. I’m planning to use the same settings and the Google API generated credentials for the second HA instance as well. If that’s going to work, my idea is to set different backup days of the week for each instance, so that there is a way to distinguish the backup files that will end up in the same folder.
…just to let you know that the Google Drive backup of two HA instances works as described above. Actually even better: two separate folders with the same same name “Home Assistant” were created as the first result, which was confusing. After I renamed the folders to be able to tell them apart (“Home Assistant A”; “Home Assistant B”), the backups work fine from both instances, that now send files to the separate and individually named folders.
