Tying themes to profile rather than browser/app instance is A HUGE REGRESSION

I use HA on a variety of different displays and devices – on some displays, I prefer light mode and on others I prefer dark mode.

This all worked fine until 2026.02 when somehow it was decided to tie themes to the profile rather than the device.

Not sure why anybody would think of this as an improvement as themes by their nature are more bound to displays (and their environment) than to the individual user.

For example, I might want a different theme on a large vs. small display. Or on my phone vs. on a monitor.

The only solution I can think of is to now generate multiple device-specific profiles – but this is klugey, burdensome and means that my profile now gets split by device.

Can this be reverted?
Or at least allow themes to be assigned both by device and by profile.

It’s really annoying that there are so many “breaking” changes in each update when it wouldn’t be that hard to make such changes also backwards compatible.

Personally, I prefer it, but I understand that both ways have their advantages.

I’m OK with this though.
