Unable to add bluetooth devices

I have HAOS installed on a Raspberry Pi 5. The Bluetooth integration shows Online and I can see the active BT advertisements in range. However, when I try to add a Bluetooth device I get an error saying No unconfigured Bluetooth adapters found..

I searched for this but what I found was either for different hardware or different setups (containerized). I looked at the diagnostics output but it’s over my head nothing said “look at me, I’m an error”. Tried restarting the integration and HAOS and hardware but nothing worked.

What should I do?

If the integration says it’s online and is showing advertisements, then the Bluetooth integration is working.

Entries in the Bluetooth integration are for adapters, not for end devices like sensors or beacons. In many cases those should be discovered automatically and appear in the Devices dashboard.

What exactly are you trying to do?

right now I’m trying to connect Switchbot Meters and later on a BLE beacon  and a speaker.

I’ve never tried using Bluetooth with my HA until now so not sure how pairing works. I’m checking the documentation you linked.

shamefully, turns out when I looked at the Bluetooth documentation I blew right past the opening paragraph where it tells you devices automatically show up in the Discovered section of Integrations. I was trying to add the Bluetooth device from Devices thinking that would start scanning.
