Hi everybody,
I’m new to the community.
I have been running home assistant on a raspberry pi 4 for a couple of years, but only with a dozen of zigbee devices until now. I have to say that I am no technical expert even though I’m okay with trial and error and experimenting by myselfs.
I have bought a SLZB-MR1U back then, knowing that it would allow me to use matter over thread in case i ever needed to. But I never really bothered trying to set up the Thread network since I had no devices. It changed two weeks ago when i bought an ikea Myggspray detector, and I thought it was about time to set this up.
Unfortunately I never succeeded and I never thought it would be so much trouble to set this up. I already spent too many hours trying to find a solution by myself, so here I am seeking advice.
Here is my setup at the moment:
System information:
IPv4 addresses for wlan0: 192.168.1.192/24
IPv6 addresses for wlan0: fdaa:bbcc:ddee:0:a2f9:8d58:d78b:70fc/64, 2001:171c:2e67:1cd0:40be:5a73:9362:ac0a/64, fe80::5e49:95aa:631:7895/64
IPv4 addresses for end0: (No address)
OS Version: Home Assistant OS 17.2
Home Assistant Core: 2026.4.4
SLZB OS is updated with v3.3.1 and connected with wi-fi.
Radio 1 is assigned to matter, and radio 2 to Zigbee coordinator, since I read somewhere it is the recommended way to assign the radios. (However, I tried the other way around as well)
The firmware installed are the latest non-dev versions :
wlan0 ipv6 is set to automatic in HA and connected with wi-fi:
I am in Switzerland, my internet provider is Sunrise/UPC with this modem : https://a.storyblok.com/f/113473/x/5d30a0460c/sunrise_home_user_manual_sunrise_internet_box_new_firmware_e.pdf
I have one unified SSID, it seems both android smartphone and homeassisant are on the 5ghz and the SLZB-MR1U on 2.4ghz.
In my router settings, ipv6 is set to “ON”, but there is not much i can tweak in here
The only feature related to ipv6 is the “ipv6 pinhole” but I have no idea if that could help and how to set it up.
“The firewall pinhole is a port that is not protected by the firewall. It therefore allows a
specific application to have full access to a service on a device in the network normally
protected by the firewall.” :
I have followed the official smlight documentation : Thread setup (network ... | SMLIGHT Manuals
In “Apps”, Matter server is running with start on boot and watchdog, matter server log level = debug.
In “Apps”, OpenThread Border Router is running with this yaml configuration :
“device: >-
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Espressif_USB_JTAG_serial_debug_unit_80:B5:4E:57:89:D8-if00
baudrate: “460800”
flow_control: true
otbr_log_level: notice
firewall: true
nat64: false
beta: false
network_device: 192.168.1.193:6638”
Thread integration:
1 border router is set to prefered and is used for Android credentials
I have 2 android phones. When I sync the thread credentials on my daily device (Xiaomi 14T), I always get the message saying “network updated from HA on this device” no matter how many times I sync. Since the tutorial says it is not the message I’m supposed to have, I tried with an old phone
On the old one, I cleared all the Google play services data, then I sync and I have the message saying “HA and this device use the same network”. => I always use this device to try to connect the IKEA myggspray.
After every attempt, I reset the IKEA myggspray by pressing the button ± 10s
On the companion app, i go to devices, add device, add matter, no it’s new, I scan the QR.
Sometimes it fails at “Connecting to device…” and sometimes to “Generating Matter credentials…”

What I have tried so far:
- adding the device when it automatically pops up, i scan the QR and instead of “Google Home” , I choose “other apps” Home assistant
- Switching radio 1 to “Thread + OTBR running on device (experimental)”
- flashing latest dev frimware on radio 1
- Switching the radios, running Zigbee on EFR32MG21 and thread on CC2652P7
- Configuring SLZB-MR1U on ethernet instead of wifi
- Configuring SLZB-MR1U on USB connection instead of wifi
Note: In the dashboard of SLZB-MR1U, IPV6 says “Off” but there is nowhere in this version to switch this ON. I have downgrade the SLZB OS and in the tab network there is a switch to put it ON, but now it’s gone.
SO,
If you are still reading, thank you so much !!
Again, i’m not that technical, but it just seems like it never reaches the matter server, nothing happens in the logs when I try to pair the device.
Is my router the culprit or the SLZB-MR1U or my HA setup ? What shall I do now ?
