Unable to get HAOS installed to the SSD on my brand new Beelink EQ14

Hi everyone, I’m just trying to get started with HA, and I’m running into a problem. I bought a brand new Beelink EQ14, I have it connected and it runs. I downloaded the HAOS image (haos_generic-x86-64-16.3.img.xz) and wrote it to a brand new USB stick.

My first issue was that every time I used Etcher to write to the stick (and to another, older stick I tried first) the write would succeed, but the validation would fail. Then I tried Rufus, that seemed to work.

Next, I was able to get the EQ14 to boot up into HAOS, I could see it from my other computer, but it was running directly from the USB stick. It never installed on the SSD. I’ve tried a few different times, but nothing seems to be working.

I don’t really care about the Windows that came with the new machine, I would be OK wiping it, as long as I know I can still get something else onto the machine.

Anyone have any ideas on how I should proceed. I’d be open to using ProxMox, but I was hoping to keep things simpler to start.

Thanks.

Edit - I put Ubuntu onto the USB stick, booted with that, then flashed HAOS directly to the SSD. Two days of struggling replaced by an hour (at most) of easy steps. Thanks for the advice! Now I get to start installing the real things…

Hi Larry, welcome to the forum!

I used these instructions: Installing HAOS on a dedicated x86-64 PC - #11 by MichaelSidenius

Also, have you seen this: Generic x86-64 - Home Assistant

Boot into a Ubuntu Live USB image, and flash the SSD with HAOS image from Ubuntu. I had no success flashing HAOS directly from a USB too.

@lglob Exactly what is written in my first link, with a little more detail!
